Moving Zigbee2MQTT to Another Server Without Starting Again
Moving Zigbee2MQTT can improve isolation and stability or let you position the coordinator somewhere more sensible. The important part is preserving the existing Zigbee network.
Record and stop
Record the serial/coordinator and MQTT settings, then stop both old and new Zigbee2MQTT instances before copying data.
Back up both sides
Back up the data directories. Important files include configuration.yaml and the Zigbee device database; keeping state.json is sensible too.
Coordinator identity matters
Keeping the same coordinator makes migration simpler because some devices care about its IEEE address. Changing server and coordinator together adds another variable.
Copy and adjust
Copy the configuration/database to the new server and change only settings that genuinely differ, such as the MQTT broker address.
Start and verify
Start the new service, watch its logs, check the expected devices return and verify they still appear through MQTT in Home Assistant.
